Leo Ryan
Leo is an international development expert with more than 20 years of experience supporting locally led solutions to complex global health issues.
Leo has led our international health and development line of business for more than a decade and is responsible for hundreds of staff across three continents. His technical focus is in the areas of global health and community engagement, systems strengthening, and survey research with an emphasis on issues related to organizational capacity and strategy. Leo and his team focus on supporting locally owned solutions to complex global issues related to health demographics, infectious disease detection and surveillance, community-based primary healthcare programs, and resilience and food security. He also supports monitoring, evaluation, and survey research (including organizational effectiveness assessments); strengthening health information systems; and human trafficking and forced labor.
Leo’s team is responsible for facilitating country ownership of globally accepted gold standard demographic and health data; introducing innovations in laboratory diagnostics in lower and middle-income countries; and working with country counterparts to improve malaria surveillance systems.
Leo received his master’s in intercultural and international communication from American University in Washington, D.C., and his bachelor’s degree in communication from Western Maryland College.
